Perky & Friends

The place for random penguin musings and the home of the Linkin Park Penguin

Perky’s Party (#Perkty)

  • So I’ve decided I am going to have a penguin party because I think it’s time I did some hosting and YOU are all invited.
  • So I hope you can all join me @perky_penguin on twitter on Sunday 19th May – 7pm (UK), for a party penguin style!
  • But there is a catch – you have to bring something/come something beginning with the letter P! And to be sure you can be admitted entry make sure you use the #perkty hashtag (i.e. short for Perky’s Party).
  • Note: the music we party to must also begin with the letter P (e.g. Parklife by Blur, or anything by Pink), but there is of course an exceptions (anything by Linkin Park, Dead by Sunrise or Fort Minor is acceptable ;-D)
  • In case you haven’t got any ideas here are what some of my pals at home are bringing/coming as:
Tootsie is coming with his pillow

Tootsie is coming with his pillow

Tenpence is bringing a penny

Tenpence is bringing a penny

Pebbles is bringing a pebble

Pebbles is bringing a pebble

Pete is bringing a pea

Pete is bringing a pea

Whilst Minty is bringing a different kind of Pea

Whilst Minty is bringing a different kind of Pea

And finally Tatty bear is coming as a penguin (original!)

And finally Tatty bear is coming as a penguin (original!)

So get your pink and purple glad rags on and come and have a penguin party with Perky and his pals!

The 7 (no make that 8) Wonders of Linkin Park

Compiled with help from @naenaenuss and in no particular order (as some of you may want to order them differently – like putting me first for example ;-)) here is the list of the wonders of Linkin Park that we randomly put together just for fun on twitter (as you do):

1. Chester’s voice

2. Mike’s mad awesome collaborative talent

3. Dave’s fierceness on the bass

4. Rob’s amazing talent on the drums

5.  Brad’s socks

6.  Joe’s art

7.  Their humanitarian efforts

8.  The Linkin Park Penguin

However, during the compilation of the list we agreed that Linkin Park have so much awesomeness that creating a list like this is very difficult indeed.  For example, Brad and Joe are equally brilliant in their roles in the band; it’s just that the things above got mentioned first.  Consequently, the list is essentially meaningless – although all talent mentioned here still stands, there’s just far more that can and should be added!

Christmas has come early – My LPU12 package has arrived!

When I first signed up for the LPU12, I read that the package would probably arrive in January, so I didn’t hold much hope out for getting it before Christmas.  There was a glimmer of hope when I started reading that people had received their packages, but with an international delivery you never know and it was particularly unlikely given that the world may have ended yesterday.  So I was very excited when the postie knocked on our door a couple of hours ago and I noticed that the parcel had a customs label on it! At first I thought the man human had immediately stolen it to wrap up for the lady human for Christmas (she likes Linkin Park too).  So I squawked and squealed until I got it back.

However, after I told him off he assured me it was all in my imagination and that he didn’t even touch it. (Which is actually true because I just happened to rest it on her present parcels, but I’m not telling him that!).  And he also had a point when he suggested that as it’s lady human I should probably be generous and share it with her anyway.  And I probably will, especially as the T-Shirt doesn’t come in a penguin size.

In fact it may be a bit big for her too, but she can lounge around in it whilst we rock to Linkin Park over the Christmas holidays.  Maybe I will ask her for some ideas to help in my Linkin Park Penguin quest, as I’m not doing a brilliant job at the moment.  However, one of my twitter friends asked Santa to make me the official Linkin Park Penguin, which was awesome so maybe if I’ve been a good penguin then it will happen for me in 2013.

(Linkin Park) Dreams – Can they come true?

I’ve had a few dreams about Linkin Park.  There was Mike and Chester ballroom dancing in between songs during a live set and not long after I dreamed that Linkin Park made it big because they won a talent contest.

Lady human has had a couple too (she remembers because she wrote them down).  The first was  an Olympic Games Linkin Park mash.  She was attending this summit sort of thing and asked to sit with a group of people she didn’t know.  They slowly moved their chairs to the front, Chester started answering questions then he went to sit by them.  He had his nails painted Olympic style, including the American flag on one hand.  She asked for a photo for lady human’s mum cos she likes painted nails (it’s a human thing apparently).   On her way home she got caught up in a synchronised bike ride type thing as part of the Olympic closing ceremony.   She made it home to find the photos had disappeared, but others were on the camera that she couldn’t remember taking.  She says she can’t remember anything else, maybe ‘because I woke up’ (yeah that would probably be why…)

Her next Linkin Park dream was apparently more normal as she went to a concert and Chester sang a My Chemical Romance song (although it sounded like MCR rather than Chester Bennington).   She thinks the Olympics may have still been on her mind as people couldn’t stand in front of the stage as there was a long runway (a bit like the way the athletes were held during the closing ceremony).  But it then turned into a bar and there were stools to sit on.   It wasn’t as busy as one would expect for a Linkin Park show –  more like a pub…now turning up at your local to find Chester B and Mike S there doing a duet would be something  wouldn’t it?!

And she had another Linkin Park dream last night – it wasn’t just any dream though – I, Perky the Linkin Park Penguin was in it!

She went to another concert in a small hall with man human.  People were queuing to get things signed at the front as the band came on to do a sound check*.  Lady didn’t really have anything, so man sent her down with the ticket.  And as she was queuing guess who was on the stage?…ME!  All the people around her knew about me, so lady took some kudos from that.  But then she got worried about how dirty I was on the stage.  ‘Luckily’ (I’m sure I’d have preferred to stay on the stage) someone directed me back to her.  How cool is that?

okay – so I wasn’t on the stage at the same time as Linkin Park in her dream, but this is for illustrative purposes

I said to lady human wouldn’t it be cool if Linkin Park dreams could come true? Then she said, yes but you wouldn’t be able to go to a concert Perky because you don’t actually like travelling anywhere – you might get lost or damaged.  She has a point, so I thought about getting posted, but that’s probably worse, so I’m going to have to think of another more feasible plan for my Linkin Park Project.

* (Apparently it was a bad sound check and then Katie Melua appeared afterwards :S – it’s a dream remember, and a human dream at that – penguins dream of fish)

Lady’s Linkin Park Scrapbook: Hybrid Theory Update

Lady human has finally pulled her penguin themed socks up and has been working hard on the Linkin Park Scrapbook.  She now has finished the pages for Linkin Park’s first album ‘Hybrid Theory’, which you can find here.  She chose a red/black/white/silver colour theme.  She says it was inspired by the colours of the album sleeve (and will accordingly do each album/page to the design of the albums sleeves), but personally I think she was inspired by my black, white and orangeness.

Lady’s Linkin Park Scrapbook

My lady human and I often do a bit of crafting together and yesterday over a nice cup of tea we were talking about potential new projects.  And we decided upon the Linkin Park Scrapbook .

Lady has always enjoyed paper crafts and kept notebooks and such things with favourite quotes and ideas.  Last year she made her first proper scrapbook in an old children’s poetry book featuring a collection of her favourite quotes and memories of days out etc.  I helped her produce it, especially the penguins spread, so I was quite excited about this new one.

penguin pages from lady’s first scrapbook

I love Linkin Park and as the Linkin Park Penguin I thought I’d be very helpful.

But she said no.

She said I was far too busy and had too much to do already: what with the Linkin Park Penguin project, going to my twitter clubs, reading all my penguin books, finalising my Penguin Happiness Device, and not to mention the stunt penguin movies. (‘Talking of which’ she said ‘when are you doing your next one? You went to all that trouble setting up your You Tube production and practicing some stunts and you have only done two?)

But she can talk: her list of hobbies and chores is pretty much the same as mine.  But no: this is her project apparently…

So I did what penguins do best…I looked at her in a super extra cute and cuddly way…

It worked a charm! She promised I could help, but maybe not with the cutting as she knows that I struggle to hold the scissors properly with my wings/flippers.

If you want to keep track of her progress and see what the scrapbook ends up looking like I said I’d make a blog for her: so you can find that here.

The Linkin Park Penguin: A Visual Illustration

The essence of the Linkin Park Penguin could not have been captured any better – (even if I did originally say I didn’t want to be a member of the band!). Check out my previous post if you want to know about the story behind this drawing.

The Most Amazing Thing Happened Yesterday…

After man human googled the words ‘penguin driving’ a couple of days ago and found a wonderful blog on tumblr with penguins in it, I decided to join tumblr so I could gain access to more penguin greatness.  And trust me when I say there are lots of penguins on tumblr so I haven’t regretted it!

But something even more amazing happened to me yesterday.

In addition to using it for penguin perusal, as the Linkin Park Penguin I obviously use it to look at Linkin Park related posts too.  And I initially came across Sunflowers because it contained a wonderful sketch of Chester and Mike.  Then, I noticed yesterday that the author of Sunflowers (the talented Natsuno Tori) was taking requests for sketches and thought what have I got to lose if I ask for a Linkin Park Penguin related one?

Now if I am being honest, I didn’t think I’d get a reply… But I did 😀

I had no idea the sketch would be completed as quickly as it was, and seriously I could not have envisioned a better illustration to capture the essence of the Linkin Park Penguin.

And furthermore this interaction and the reasons behind the drawing are perfectly suited to my own Perky philosophy.  I started this blog because I wanted to make people smile and have five minutes of downtime.  And similarly Natsuno Tori seems to support this ideal: the selflessness of offering and then completing such a wonderful drawing is proof that some humans are truly wonderful beings.

So from the bottom of my penguin heart: thank you soooooooooooooooooooooo much and I will cherish it forever!

Now I guess you want to see the drawing…well I think it deserves a whole post of its own!
